AIMS OF PROCESS-BASED MORPHOLOGY COURSE

The course in UM, optional, in English, provides 6 credits and is open to all students, including Erasmus ones. The purpose of the process-based morphological studies proposed by the course, is the knowledge of the characters of the built environment and the recognition of its formation and transformation having as ultimate goal the architectural design open to multiple estetic synthesis.It aims to teach a method of reading the physical form of the city through the understanding of the forming process common to urban fabrics and buildings, The term “reading” not indicaes the neutral recording of phenomena, but an awareness which requires the active and dynamic contribution of the reader. The basic notions of urban organism and forming process will be provided.

 

COURSE STRUCTURE

The course will consist of:

  1. a series of lectures (see schedule)aiming to provide the student, through the morphological/processural method, with the tools to read the built environment, historical and contemporary, having the architectural design as its goal.
  2. some lectures given by external professors or experts, on complementary subjects.
  3. “morphological walk”. Field surveys organized to examine the fabrics and buildings under study.

EXAMINATION

Students will be evaluated trough an oral test trough a presentation of the work carried out during the course on one of the themes included in the program or chosen together with the teachers. The student’s work may also contain a simple design proposal as an example of the theoretical study.The students will be free also to present their individual notebook and all the works they consider useful for evaluation.

Patrimoni in trasformazione e lo spirito
della Costituzione

EDITORIALE del N. 22-23 di U+D

When, in 1947, the Italian Constituent Assembly
addressed the problem of the new Republic
historical and artistic heritage, the statement
that the State should have, among its founding
principles, its protection of these precious
and problematic assets was not at all obvious.
It was believed, in fact, that it would not have
been useful to indicate something so obvious.
As if one were indicating, stated the Christian
Democrat Edoardo Clerici, “that in our country
we speak Italian”. And yet, the founding fathers
acted wisely, as even naming things is a choice
and in the post-fascist Italy of the time, the statement
took on a particular meaning. The principle
of attributing to the entire Republic (not to
local authorities, provinces, regions) the task of
its care, highlighted the idea of a common right,
of a shared good placed above any geographical

Quando, nel 1947, l’Assemblea costituente affrontò il problema del patrimonio storico e artistico della nuova Repubblica, la dichiarazione che lo Stato dovesse avere, tra i suoi principi fondanti, la sua tutela di questi beni preziosi e problematici non fu affatto scontata. Si riteneva, infatti, che non sarebbe stato utile indicare una cosa tanto ovvia. Come se si indicasse , affermava il democristiano Edoardo Clerici, “che nel nostro Paese si parla italiano”. Eppure, hanno agito con saggezza i padri costituenti, perché anche nominare le cose è una scelta e nell’Italia postfascista e incerta di allora l ‘affermazione assumeva un significato particolare. Il principio di attribuire all’intera Repubblica (non agli enti locali, alle province, alle regioni) il compito della sua cura, metteva in particolare evidenza l’idea di un diritto comune, di un bene condiviso e indissolubile dalla vita dei cittadini che si poneva al di sopra di ogni appartenenza geografica e politica.

La Repubblica, recita l’art. 9 della Costituzione, tutela inoltre il paesaggio e il patrimonio storico e artistico della Nazione “anche nell’interesse delle future generazioni”.

Altra affermazione solo apparentemente scontata. Essa ci dice che l’idea di patrimonio culturale é anche il filo rosso che tiene unite nella memoria le vicende della storia, le sue tracce materiali e immateriali alle quali viene attribuito particolare valore, dando loro senso e continuità.

Vorrei illustrare due modalità attraverso le quali ho sviluppato una serie di studi sui rapporti tra architettura e geografia. Da diversi anni dedico il mio lavoro allo studio del “doppio legame” che si è instaurato tra la crosta terrestre e le trasformazioni antropiche della crosta stessa. Pertanto illustrerò uno studio che ho condotto sull’opera incompiuta di Saverio Muratori dal titolo Studi per un’operante storia del territorio e di un lavoro analitico e progettuale applicato a un territorio francese, la Vallée du Grésivaudan. Si tratta di due tecniche di studio che ho sempre sviluppato in parallelo. ………………

The contribution consists of two parts. The first
part contains some reflections on the structure
of Saverio Muratori’s unpublished and unfinished
research entitled Studi per un’operante
storia del territorio. What emerges from this
research is the construction of a model of the
functioning of the territory based on a composition
of complementary parts tending towards
the construction of a unitary body. This model,
referring to Ptolemy’s Geography, already enters
into crisis within the analysis itself. On this crisis,
Muratori’s experience in architecture comes to a
halt, opening up important development scenarios
on the relationship between land forms and
settlement forms. In the second part, an analytical-
design research conducted on the Vallée du
Grésivaudan is presented. In this research, the
model of land construction by parts is enriched
with a vision that links settlements to geomorphological
structure. ……………

The Isuf local networks are growing in number and quality of activities. The annual reports sent by the presidents of the different associations in 2025 prove the great interest of the members in organizing new tools for the dissemination of the results of their research, and how the different investigations have dissimilar characteristics linked to the different cultural areas. The specificity of the research topic often requires dedicated tools for reading the built landscape stimulating original and innovative experimentations. Precisely for this reason, Isufitaly has organized a round table to make known and discuss, through brief presentations, the different, specific research conditions, methods, topics of the five networks in formation that will soon be added to the Isuf network family.
